Description
One of the most famous ships ever to sail on the Great Lakes, the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. The infamous sinking of the "Fitz" was originally memorialized in a song, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, by Gordon Lightfoot. The sinking, that occurred on November 10, 1975 caused the loss of life of all 29 crewmen.
The Ship's Bell was recovered in 1995 under the coordination of many organizations. It now resides on permanent display at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Paradise, Michigan.
